For my final portfolio, I wanted to incorporate mental illness in my home state of Montana. Mental illness is still extremely stigmatized, despite Montana being in the top 5 states for suicide for the past 30 years. Around the time this project was introduced there was 5 deaths of people under 18 in my hometown, 2 of those were suicides. I wanted to depict mental illness in the backdrop of Montana, this project also gave me time to reflect on what I can do in my community to end the stigmatization of mental illness and help start a conversation.
